The Creative Action Project (CAP)
leadership development * creative expression * positive social change
ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Creative Action Project (CAP) is a comprehensive program for teen girls in the Cambridge public schools, offering leadership development, cultural exploration, and opportunities for creative expression. Participating girls explore and celebrate the contributions of women and girls throughout the world and throughout history; explore their creative potential through a variety of art and writing projects; gain the confidence, skills and experience necessary to become strong leaders in their communities and develop into involved citizens who play an active role in bringing about positive social change. CAP presents a unique opportunity for girls to make new friends and have fun while learning about themselves and the world around them!
ABOUT THE GIRLS CAP participants are a diverse group of 9th and 10th grade girls. We meet afterschool twice a week during the school years, and four days a week in the summer. Activities include creative art and writing projects; exploring women's art and literature from around the world, learning about the history of women's activism and women's movements worldwide; media literacy studies, community service activities, field trips, guest speakers; and more. These activities are designed to build on girl's strengths and encourage them to explore who they are and who they want to become. Girls also benefit from working with women of different ages, including Peer Leaders, Interns, and Mentors and Tutors.
